School childrenAs the number of Lookers has declined over the year’s knowledge of their ways and their traditions has also declined.
The Lookers Heritage Project is a community run project on Romney Marsh aiming to investigate and research the sheep farming heritage of the marsh.  With funding from Local Heritage Initiative, and supported by Marsh Forward and Hidden Britain South East, the project aims to present the subject in a variety of innovative ways, thereby preserving the heritage and making information available to both visitors and locals alike.

In addition to this website, where all the information was produced by local volunteers, the project will also be developing; a recipe book of traditional and contemporary marsh recipes, heritage bags which will be available form local retailers, and a presentation on the marsh, lookers and the sheep compiled by the pupils of Greatstone School.
By undertaking this project it is hoped the traditions and heritage of the marsh can be preserved for future generations
